Spring is Here

Every day you may make progress. Every step may be fruitful. Yet there will stretch out before you an ever-lengthening, ever-ascending, ever-improving path. You know you will never get to the end of the journey. But this, so far from discouraging, only adds to the joy and glory of the climb.
Sir Winston Churchill

It’s one of those moments when you take a step forward and find yourself in unfamiliar surroundings. You are not sure yet what to make of it, you are excited and slightly petrified about the unknown, but you know that you are no longer the same person. We change every day. We make discoveries that open our eyes and there is no turning back to the old way of thinking. It’s a never stopping evolution of mind.

You made it to the new phase of your life and it will take some time before it becomes customary reality. You don’t know how you will proceed from here or where you will go next. Ideas will come along, signs will become visible and more obvious as you step on this new path. It’s progress if it feels good. It’s not your path if you feel insecure and uncomfortable, and all the people around will speak some unfamiliar language when you recognize the words, but struggle to grasp their meaning. But if you are on right track, you will meet amazing people. You will become a part of someone’s life. You will change lives, change people. Many unexpected and puzzling things will happen to you. In this amazing journey called life you are destined to be surprised, entertained, educated and loved every mile you pass.

  1. Hi Aysel.
I love this part of the quote; ". . . this, so far from discouraging, only adds to the joy and glory of the climb."
How come we feel so often discouraged when things do not go to plan? How come we learned to feel this rather than joy and glory because at least we tried something new?
I know that when I tried something and it didn't work out, like a cake or a workshop, I could feel so upset. But what for?
Once my ego got over the upset and I got my inner peace back, I often could look back and see the mistake and I always ended up knowing more.
And yes when things go well, that is wonderful and encouraging too.
The other times when it doesn't, I am learning to stop judgment about good and bad as it doesn't do me any good.
It just is, I lick my wounds and get up as quickly as I can. Luckily changing from feeling discouraged into feeling proud is something that we can learn, albeit that it asks commitment, courage and practice, a lot of practice.

  2. Hi Wilma,
Thank you for your insightful comment. My favorite quote is "It's better to take risk and lose than not to take risk at all". We learn something new from achievements and failures as long as we move forward. You are right, it's easy to get discouraged if things don't go our way. I am tempted to declare that next time I won't do anything or won't say anything because it's safer. But I am not that kind of a person. So instead I think: I will learn from this, and try again, and maybe suck again, but sooner or later I will get it right.
I am not afraid to lose because I am already a winner by being brave. I am afraid of the emotional breakdown that might follow.
I did get a raise and I did have to fight for it. It wasn't a fight because I got a "no", it was because I got "maybe... in a couple of months.. we'll see .. we are working on it", which looked like a promise-to-forget and it wasn't good enough. So I won at the end but was emotionally burnt out. And after a couple of days of "licking woods", I finally begin to celebrate the glory of my victory. Next time it will go smoother... I hope. Meanwhile I am learning some breathing relaxation technique to help me with my emotions.
